Impact Test

próba udarności

We provide services related to performing impact tests — an essential tool in analyzing material behavior under extreme conditions involving sudden impact. During an impact test, a material specimen is fractured by a Charpy hammer, while the energy absorbed by the sample during the fracture is measured. In some cases, the specimen is also cooled to a specific temperature prior to testing.

At the PALAB Laboratory, we perform Charpy impact tests at room temperature as well as at reduced temperatures down to -60°C, using a nominal energy of 450 J.

Impact Strength Testing

Impact strength testing allows for the assessment of a material’s ability to absorb energy under emergency conditions. It is therefore crucial in industries where material performance in extreme environments is key to the safety of people and equipment. This type of testing is particularly important in the aerospace, automotive, oil, and energy industries, as well as in any applications subject to dynamic stresses. It helps prevent potential hazards and ensures the quality and durability of products.

Impact Testing of Welded Joints

Fracture toughness is also a critical parameter for welded joints. This property can differ significantly from that of the base material due to heat input during welding. At the PALAB Laboratory, we perform Charpy impact tests on welded joints for the qualification of welding technologies and for test plates intended for pressure vessels.
