Microhardness Measurement

We are pleased to present our microhardness testing service. This procedure is used in material research to determine the surface hardness of materials for which higher test loads cannot be applied. At the PALAB Laboratory, we perform these tests using the Vickers method.

What is microhardness testing?

The microhardness testing method differs from standard hardness testing in that it focuses on microscopic areas of the material, allowing for a more localized and precise determination of hardness.

During the test, the indenter makes a very small impression on the material’s surface, leaving only a minimal mark. For this reason, the method is sometimes conventionally classified as non-destructive testing.

Applications of microhardness testing

Microhardness testing is widely used in industry, scientific research, and quality control, where accurate knowledge of material hardness is crucial to ensure the strength and durability of products. This test is particularly useful for thin metallic coatings and thermochemical treatments, such as nitriding.
